Let the cost price = Rs. $100\mathit{x}$
⇒ Selling price = $100\mathit{x}+\frac{12}{100}\times 100\mathit{x}=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.112\mathit{x}$ ----------------(i)
Also, Marked price = Rs. 9800 and discount % = 20%
⇒ Selling price = $9800-\frac{20}{100}\times 9800=9800-1960=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.7840$ ------------(ii)
From equations (i) and (ii), we get :
⇒ $112\mathit{x}=7840$
⇒ $\mathit{x}=\frac{7840}{112}=70$
∴ Cost price = $100\times 70=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.7000$
