Ram and Shyam undertook a work for Rs 5600. Ram alone can do the work in 5 days and Shyam alone can do the work in 9 days. If they work together, then what will be the difference (in Rs.) in the amount they receive?

Solution:

Ram alone can do the work in 5 days and Shyam alone can do the work in 9 days.
⇒ Efficiency of work done by Ram : Shyam = 9 : 5
Thus, difference in amount received by them =

(9−5)/{9+5} × 5600

4 × 400 = Rs. 1600
