An isosceles triangle ABC has sides AB = AC. If side BA is produced to D in such a manner that AC = AD.
Then what will be the measure of angle BCD?

Solution:

Given : ABC is an isosceles triangle and AB = AC = AD
To find : ∠BCD = ?
Solution : ∵ AB = AC, ⇒ ∠ACB = ∠ABC = θ
Similarly, ∠ACD = ∠ADC = θ
Now, in ∆ BCD,
⇒

∠ABC+( ∠ACB+ ∠ACD)+ ∠ADC= 180°

⇒

θ + θ + θ + θ = 180°

⇒

θ = 180 °/4= 45°

∴

∠ BCD=θ+θ=45°

+45°=90°=π/2
