Let the number of persons initially be

x

M_{1}=x, D_{1}=54

M_{2}=x-15, D_{2}=54+18=72

∴ \;\; M_{1} D_{1}=M_{2} D_{2}

x × 54=(x-15) × 72

72 x-54 x=15 × 72

⇒ \;\; 18 x=15 × 72

∴ \;\; x=15 × 4=60
