of milk. One-fourth of the milk is taken out and replaced with water. Then, half of the mixture is taken out and replaced with water. What is the respective quantity of milk and water left in the drum?

$20 {L}$ and $20 {L}$
$25 {L}$ and $15 {L}$

Validate

Solution:

Total quantity of milk initially

=40 {L}

\;{1}/{4}

of the milk is taken out and replaced with water, therefore
quantity of milk

=40-40 × \;{1}/{4}=30 {L}

quantity of water

=40 × \;{1}/{4}=10 {L}

Again, half of mixture is taken out and replaced with water.

∴

New quantity of milk

=30 × \;{1}/{2}=15 {L}

New quantity of water

=\;{10}/{2}+40 × \;{1}/{2}

=5+20=25 {L}
