We know that, if a number is divisible by then the sum of digits of the number is divisible by 9.
∴ Sum of the number,
$7129\mathit{p}465$
$=7+1+2+9+\mathit{p}+4+6+5$
$=34+\mathit{p}$
Since, 36 is nearest to 34 and is divisible by 9.
∴ p must be 2.
