The average of 12 numbers is 15 and the average of the first two is 14. What is the average of the rest ?

Solution:

Average of 12 numbers = 15
⇒ Sum of 12 numbers =

15 × 12 = 180

Similarly, sum of first two =

14 × 2 = 28

Thus, sum of rest of the numbers =

180 − 28 = 152

⇒ Average of 10 numbers =

152/10=76/5=15 1/5
