The first Law Commission was set-up in 1955 in independent India with the then Attorney-General of India, MC Setalvad, as its Chairman. Since, then twenty one more Law Commissions have been appointed, each with a three-year term. The Law Commission conducts legal research and reviews existing laws in India in order to make revisions and establish new legislation.
