A bag has Rs12.9 in the form of 1 rupee, 50 paise and 10 paise coins in the ratio of 3:2:3. How many 50 paise coins are there in the bag?

Solution:

Let the number of 1-rupee, 50-paise and 10-paise coins be

3x,2x

and

3x

respectively.
Total amount in the bag = Rs. 12.9
⇒

(1 × 3x) + ( 50/100 × 2x)

+ ( 10/100 × 3x) = 12.9

⇒

3x + x + {3x}/10 = 12.9

⇒

{30x+10x+3x} /10= 12.9

⇒

43x = 12.9 × 10 = 129

⇒

x =129 / 43 =3

∴ Number of 50 paise coins =

2x = 2 × 3 = 6
