Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) is an input device used to verify the legitimacy or originality of paper documents, especially cheques. The MICR on a cheque is the string of characters that appears at the bottom left of the cheque. It consists of three groups of numbers, including the bank routing number, the account number and the cheque number.
