Solution:

(1) Increase in first year = 10%
Decrease in 2nd year = 10%
Effective result

= (10-10- {10 × 10}/{100} ) \%

=-1 \%

Increase in 3rd year = 10%
∴ Effective result

= (10-1- {10 ×1}/{100} ) \%

= (9 – 0.1)% = 8.9% (increase)
