The areas of two similar triangles ΔXYZ and ΔPQR are 100 sq cm and 25 sq cm, respectively. If PQ = 4 cm then what is the length of XT (in cm)?

Solution:

According to the question,

{\Δ\XYZ}/{\Δ\PQR}=(\XY/\PQ) ^2

[ ∵ ΔXYZ ~ ΔPQP]
⇒

100/25=(\XY/4)^2

⇒

2=\XY/4

∴

XY = 8\cm
