Solution:

Average of 28, 31, 35 and 43

= {28+31+35+43 }/4= 34.25

Also, the average of 28, 31, x, 35 and 43 lies between 30 and 40

30 < {28+31+x+35+43 }/5 < 40

⇒

150 < 137 + x < 200 ⇒ x < 63

Since the value of x is an integer and greater than 34.25 then, 34 < x < 63
