The average of four consecutive odd numbers is 64. What is the value of largest number?

Solution:

Let four consecutive odd numbers be x, (x + 2), (x + 4) and (x + 6).
According to the question,

{x + (x + 2) + (x + 4 ) + (x + 6)}/4=64

⇒

x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6)

= 64 × 4

⇒

4 x + 12 =256

⇒

4 x =256 -12

⇒

4 x = 244

∵

x=244/4=61

∴ Largest number = x + 6
=61 + 6 = 67
