A solid cone of height 36 cm and radius of base 9 cm is melted to form a solid cylinder of radius 9 cm and height 9 cm. What per cent of material is wasted in this process ?

Solution:

Volume of cone

=1/3×π(9)^2×36=972π

Volume of cylinder

= π× (9 )^2 ×9 = 729π

Wasted material

= 972π-729π= 243 π

∴ Required percentage

={243 π}/{972π}×100=25%
