Four different positive number are written in descending order. One- third of the average of all the four number is 76 less than the greatest of these number, if the average of last three numbers is 48, then the greatest number among the given number is?

Validate

Solution:

Let the numbers be=a,b,c,d in descending order

(a + b + c + d)/12 + 76 = a

.................(i)

b + c + d = 48 × 3

,........................ (ii)
substituting the value of (ii) in (i) we get

76+12+a/12 = a

88 ={ 11a} /1 2 ⇒ a = 96
