tan^2 θ + cot^2 θ

Solution:

tan θ + cot θ = 5
On squaring both sides,

(tan θ + cot θ )^2

= 52

cot^2

θ + 2 tan θ .cot θ = 25
⇒

tan^2

θ +

cot^2

θ = 25 – 2 = 23
