Solution:

Total marked price of three books = Rs. 300
Their S.P. = Rs. 244.50
Discount = Rs. (300 – 274.50) = Rs. 25.50
If the rate of discount be x%,
then

{30×x}/{100}

= 25.50
⇒ 300x = 25.50 × 100
⇒ x =

{25.50×100}/{300}

= 8.5%
