If (x -2 )^2 + (y + 3)^2 + (z-15)^2 =0, then what is the value of x + y + z - 5 ?

(x -2 )^2 + (y + 3)^2 + (z-15)^2 =0,

then what is the value of

x + y + z - 5 ?

Solution:

(x -2 )^2 + (y + 3)^2 + (z-15)^2 =0

x - 2 = 0 ∴ x = 2

y + 3 = 0 ∴y = -3

and

z -1 5 = 0∴z = 15

∴

x + y + z - 5 = 2 - 3 + 1 5 - 5

= 1 7 - 8 = 9
