The greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere are: Water vapour (${\mathit{H}}_2\mathit{O}$), Carbon dioxide ($\mathit{C}{\mathit{O}}_2$), Methane ($\mathit{C}{\mathit{H}}_4$), Nitrous oxide (${\mathit{N}}_2\mathit{O}$), Ozone (${\mathit{O}}_3$) and Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Methane is an important greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of 34 compared to $\mathit{C}{\mathit{O}}_2$ over a 100- year period, and 72 over a 20- year period.
