Let the empty tank will be filled in

According to the question,

\;\;{x}/{12}+\;{4}/{16}-\;{x}/{24}=1

⇒\;\;{2 x-x}/{24}=1-\;{1}/{4}

⇒\;\;{x}/{24}=\;{3}/{4} ⇒ x=3 × 6

∴ \;x \;\; =18 {h}
