The plant hormone auxin is wellknown to stimulate cell elongation. They are produced in the stem, buds and root tips. Auxins also play a role in cell division and differentiation, in fruit development, in the formation of roots from cuttings, in the inhibition of lateral branching and in leaf fall. Indole -3-Acetic Acid (IAA) is the major naturally occurring auxin.
