Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was named the brand ambassador of the Hockey India League (HIL) in January 2013. The first edition saw participation from Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Jaypee Punjab Warriors, Delhi Waveriders, Mumbai Magicians and Ranchi Rhinos.
