Gujarat government has proposed to rename dragon fruit as 'Kamalam' as the outer shape of the fruit resembles a lotus.
The word 'Kamalam' is a Sanskrit word which means Lotus. Dragon fruit is the fruit of a species of wild cactus indigenous to South and Central America, where it is called Pitaya or Pitahaya.
