A trader had 960 kg of rice. He sold a part of it at 20% profit and the rest at 8% profit, so that he made a total profit of 12%. How much rice (in kg) did he sell at 8% profit?

Solution:

Let the trader sells x kg of rice at 8% profit.
According to the question,

x ×{108}/{100}+(960-x) ×{120}/{100}

=960×{112}/{100}

⇒

108 x+115200-120 x

=107520

⇒

12 x=7680

∴

x=640 {\kg}
