Ann, Bill and Ken shared some stamps in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. After a game the ratio became 5 : 2 : 2. If Ann won 21 stamps how many did Ken lose?

Solution:

Difference between the ratios of Ann = 5 – 2 = 3
: 3 ⇒ 21
∴ : 1 =

{21}/3

= 7
Ken lost : 2 stamps
: 2 = 2 × 7 = 14
