Single equivalent discount for 40% and 30%

= (70 – 12)% = 58%
Single equivalent discount for 45% and 20%
=

(45+20-{45×20}/{100})

= (65 – 9)% = 56%
Let the marked price be Rs. x.
According to the question,
x × (58 – 56)% = 12

= 12
⇒ x =

{1200}/2

= Rs. 600
