The length of diagonal BD of a parallelogram ABCD is 36 cm. P and Q are the centroids of triangle ABC and triangle ADC, respectively. What is the length (in cm) of PQ ?

Validate

Solution:

BD =36 cm
∵ The diagonals bisect each other in a parallelogram.
∴

B O=O D= {36}/{2}=18 {\cm}

∵The centroid divides themedian in the ratio 2 :1.
∴

P O=18 × c{1}{3}=6 {\cm}

O Q=18× {1}/{3}=6 {\cm}

∴

P Q=P O+O Q=6+6=12 {\cm}
