The ratio of present ages of Anil and Aakash is 4 : 5. Three years later their ages will be in ratio 7 : 8. What is the present age (in years) of Anil?

Solution:

Let Anil’s present age = 4x years
and Akash’s present age = 5x years
According to the question,

{4x + 3 }/{5x + 3 }=7/8

⇒

32x + 24=35x + 21

⇒

3 5 x -3 2 x = 2 4 -2 1

⇒

3x =3∴ x = 1

∴ Anil’s present age= 4 × 1
= 4 years
