(b) Akbar succeeded Humayun on 14 February 1556. In Kalanaur, Punjab, the 13-year-old Akbar was enthroned by Bairam Khan on a newly constructed platform. He was proclaimed as Shahanshah (Persian word means "King of Kings"). He was given the nickname 'the Great' because of his many achievements, among which, was his record of unbeaten military campaigns that established the Mughal rule in the Indian subcontinent.
