Solution:

(b) Suppose the first part is

Then, the second part is

(200-a)

∴ {1}/{3}(a)={1}/{2}(200-a)

⇒ {1}/{3} a=100-{1}/{2} a

⇒ {1}/{3} a+{1}/{2} a=100 ⇒{5 a}/{6}=100

⇒ a={100 ×6}/{5}=120

∴ First part

=a=120,

Second part

=200-120=80

So, the larger of the parts

=120.
