(3) Warren Hastings was appointed the first Governor-General of Bengal in 1774 A.D under the Regulating Act of 1773 A.D. earlier, he served as the Governor of Bengal from 1772 to 1774 A.D. He was thereby the first de facto Governor-General of India from 1772 to 1785.
