The difference of two numbers is 20% of the larger number. If the smaller number is 20, the larger number is :

Solution:

(1) Let the larger number be x
According to question,
x – 20 = 20% of x
or,

x-20= {x}/{5}

or,

x- {x}/{5}=20

or,

5x – x = 20 × 5

or,

4x = 20 × 5

x = 5 × 5 = 25
