If the area of a triangle is 1176 cm

and base : corresponding altitude is 3 : 4, then the altitude of the triangle is :

Solution:

39.(4) Let the base and altitude be 3x and 4x respectively.
∴ According to question,

base × altitude = 1176 cm

^{2}

or,

{1}/{2} × 3 x× 4 x=1176

12 x^{2}=1176× 2

x^{2}= {1176 × 2}/{12}

or,

x^{2}=196

∴ x=√{196}=14 {cm}

∴ Altitude of a triangle = 4x= 4 × 14 cm = 56 cm
