(3) Chlorofluorocarbon (CFCs), commonly known by the DuPont brand name Freon, have been used extensively in last five or six decades as refrigerants in the vapor compression cycle to produce refrigerating and air-conditioning effects. They are also used in aerosol sprays that form air pollutants. CFCs are being phased out because of their role in ozone depletion.
