(3) A mixture is a material containing two or more elements or compounds in any proportion and the components of which can be separated by simple mechanical means. It can be homogeneous or heterogeneous. A homogeneous mixture such as sugar solution has a uniform composition throughout its mass. A heterogeneous mixture such as a mixture of sand and common salt does not have auniform composition throughout its mass.
