The area of a trapezium, whose one parallel side is 23 m long, is 1480 m2. If the distance between the parallel sides is 80 m, find the other parallel side.

Solution:

(3) Let the other parallel side of the trapezium be x m.
Area of trapezium =

1/2

× (Sum of parallel sides) × (Distance between parallel sides)

⇒ 1480= {1}/{2}×(23+x) ×80

⇒ 37=23+x

x = 14 m.
