(1) Let the total number of air conditioners sold in 2011 be x.
Number of air conditioners sold by Hitachi in 2011 = 12% of x
Number of air conditioners sold by LG in 2011 = 8% of x
12% of x - 8% of x = 3456
⇒ 4% of x = 3456

⇒ x= {3456}/{4} × 100=86400

Total number of air conditioners sold by Panasonic and Blue Star together in 2011
= 22% of x + 10% of x
= 32% of x = 32% of 86400
= 27648
