Out of a certain sum,

th at 6% and the rest at 8%. If the simple interest for 2 years from all these investments amounts to ₹ 600, find the original sum.

Solution:

(b) Rest part

= 1 - ( { 1 } /{ 3 } + { 1 } /{ 6 } ) = { 1 }/ { 2 }

Rate % per annum on total sum 6%

= ( { 1 }/ { 3 }× 3 ) + ( { 1 }/ { 6 } × 6 ) + ( { 1 }/ { 2 } × 8 ) = 6 \%

∴ { P } = { 600×100 } /{ 6 × 2 } = ₹ 5,000
