(d) b = a + 2
c = b + 2 = a + 4
d = c + 2 = a + 6
e = d + 2 = a + 8
∴ Required average

= { a + a + 2 + a + 4 + a + 6 + a + 8 }/ { 5 }

= { 5 a + 20 } /{ 5 } = a + 4
