STRs or Short Tandem Repeats are certain specific nucleotide sequences in the human genome, which are repeated multiple times. The number of these repeats is unique for each individual. STRs do not code for any protein, and thus, are found in the non-coding parts of DNA. Identification of the number of these STRs is basically the key step in DNA fingerprinting.
