The price of cooking oil is increased by 25%. By what percent a family should reduce the consumption of cooking oil so as not to increase the expenditure on this account?

Validate

Solution:

(1) Required %

=25/(100+ 25)×100 %

=25/125×100 % = 20%

2nd method :
Let expenditure = ₹100
So, 25% increment in expenditure i.e.
100 + 25 =₹ 125
So, it should be reduced
= 125 – 100 = 25

∴ Reduced % =25/125×100 %

= 20%
