Speed of a boat in still water is 9 km/hour. The boat travels a distance and returns back to the starting point in 135 minutes. If the speed of stream is 1 km/hour, then what was the total distance travelled by the boat?

Solution:

2) Let the distance be 2d km. Now,

d/{9+1}+d/{9-1}=135/60

⇒9d/40=135/60⇒d=10

km
So, the total distance travelled by the boat = 2 × 10 = 20 km
