{AD }/{DB}=3/5

. If AC = 5.6 cm, find AE.

Solution:

(a) In DABC, DE | | BC
By applying Basic Proportionality
theorem,

{AD}/{DB}={AE}/ {EC}

= But {AD} /{DB }= 3 /(Given)

∴{AE}/{EC}= 3 /5 or {AE}/{EC +AE } =3/{5 +3}

{AE}/{ AC}=3/8

= or {AE}/{5.6}=3/8⇒8AE = 3 × 5.6 ⇒ AE = 3 × 5.6 /8

∴ AE = 2.1 cm.
