(1) Lonar Lake in Buldhana district of Maharashtra is suspected to have developed due to impact of a large meteorite on Deccan Basaltic rocks of Cretaceous age. It is the only known hyper velocity impact crater in basaltic rock anywhere on Earth. It lies within the only known extraterrestrial impact crater found within the great Deccan Traps basaltic formation of India.
