A thief is 400 m ahead of a policeman. The thief started running and the policeman started chasing simultaneously. Assuming the speed of thief be 10 km/h & policeman be 15 km/h, calculate the distance (in meters) covered by the thief before the policeman caught the thief.

(2) Speed of the policeman= 15 km/hr

Speed of the thief = 10 km/hr

Let the time taken by the police manto catch the thief = t hrs

Difference of distance covered by both is 400 m i.e.,0.4 km in t hrs.

5t = 0.4 , t =

Distance covered by the thiefD = 10×

0.4/5
