A purse contains ₹ 455 in the form of ₹ 1, ₹ 2 and ₹ 5 coins in the ratio of 2 : 4 : 5. What is the number of ₹ 2 coins in the purse?

Solution:

(2) Total money = ₹ 455Coins = ₹ 1, ₹ 2, ₹ 5
Ratio = 2:4:5
Let the no. of coins be x, y, z
2x + 4y + 5z = 455
Now, y = 2x, and z = 5x, so the equation becomes,
2x + 4(2x) + 5(5x) =455
⇒ 2x + 8x + 25x = 455
⇒ 35x = 455
⇒ x =13
Value formed by 2 coins
= 8 ×13=104
No. of 2 coins =

104/2

= 52
