If $(2a/m$ + $b/n$ )=2 and ( $a/m$ - $b/n$ ) , find the values of 'a' and 'b' respectively.

Solution:

{ 2 a }/ { m } + { b }/ { n } = 2

and

{ a }/ { m } - { b } /{ n } = 4

On adding both the equations,

{ 3 a }/ { m } = 6 \⇒ a = 2 m

Putting

a = 2 m

in

( { a } /{ m } - { b }/ { n } = 4 \)

we get

{ 2 m }/ { m } - { b } /{ n } = 4

\ { b } /{ n } = 2 - 4

b = - 2 n

a = 2 m , b = - 2 n
