A shopkeeper sells an article at 15% gain. Had he sold it for ₹18 more, he would have gained 18%. The cost price (in ₹) of the article is :

Solution:

(2) Let the cost price = ₹ x
∴ After 15% profit
S.P. = 115% of x

={115x}/100={23x}/20

∴ From question,

118% of x ={23x}/20+ 18

⇒{118x}/100={23x}/20+ 18

⇒{118x}/100–{23x}/20= 18

⇒{118 x-115x}/100= 18

⇒{3x}/100= 18

∴ x =1800/3= 600
