A boat with the speed of 8 km/h in still water covers a distance of 60 km downstream in 6 hr. Calculate the time required for the return journey.

Solution:

(1) Downstream speed

= 60/6

km/h
= 10 km/h ∴ Speed of current= (10 – 8) km/h = 2 km/h So,upstream speed = (8 – 2) km/h= 6 km/h ∴ Time required while
returning

= 60/6

hr = 10 hr
